Book translation launch: How to Make an Entrepreneurial State: Why Innovation Needs Bureaucracy

Welcome to the book launch of the Finnish translation of book “How to Make an Entrepreneurial State: Why Innovation Needs Bureaucracy”, with a Finnish title “Kuinka luoda yrittäjähenkinen valtio — eli miksi innovaatiot tarvitsevat byrokratiaa”.

When? Monday 29 April at 15.30–17.00

Where? Think Corner (Tiedekulma), Think Lounge (2. floor, room 201), Yliopistonkatu 3, 00100 Helsinki

The event is organized by the progressive think tank Kalevi Sorsa Foundation and publishing house Vastapaino. It is open to everyone but we recommend you register through this form by April 22.

The book is the winner of the Academy of Management’s 2023 George R. Terry book award.  The groundbreaking volume shows how the public sector must adapt, but also persevere, in order to advance technology and innovation. This vital account explores the complex and often contradictory positions of innovating public bodies—and shows how they can overcome financial and political resistance to change for the good of us all.

The launch brings to Finland all three authors of the book: Rainer Kattel, who is professor and deputy director at the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose; Wolfgang Drechsler, who is honorary professor at the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose and professor of governance at the Nurkse Department of Innovation and Governance at TalTech, as well as associate at Harvard University’s Davis Center; and Erkki Karo, who is associate professor and head of department at the Nurkse Department of Innovation and Governance at TalTech.
